Nvidia is pitching Apollo on retrofitting over 130 Brightspeed phone buildings for roughly 1 GW of existing AI inference power.

Nvidia sent a written proposal this week to retrofit Apollo-backed Brightspeed's more than 130 legacy telecom buildings across up to 20 states, aiming at roughly 1 GW of existing power and Q1 2027 Vera Rubin rack installs to sidestep new-build moratoriums, according to The Information via Yahoo Finance. Sites would still need local cooling permits, and no deal is signed or end chip customer named yet. For grid and project teams, existing utility hookups inside aging phone exchanges are becoming fast-track AI real estate.

Skydio locks in Axon's US and Canada first-responder channel with a $1.2B minority stake instead of selling the company.

Axon is putting $1.2B in cash and stock into U.S. drone maker Skydio at a $5.2B pre-money valuation, lifting its non-voting stake by about 20% and locking in exclusive U.S. and Canada public-safety distribution. Skydio says it expects roughly $1B in bookings this fiscal year and stayed independent after weighing a full sale so it can keep expanding across energy, construction, transportation and defense. Closing is expected in stages across Q4 2026 and Q1 2027.

Nine mostly free checks starting with who owns the plant-room router show whether your controllers sit open on the internet.

After attackers changed supermarket refrigeration setpoints across Europe, including a Swedish store that found its freezers at 50 C, Erik Huisman wrote a nine-step checklist where most checks cost nothing and avoid scanning live OT gear. The walkdown starts with checking cabinets for undocumented vendor 4G or 5G routers, looking up site public IPs in Shodan, auditing NAT rules and contractor logins, and testing manual operation plus an independent alarm. He also links an early open-source Shodan and questionnaire script called otcheck that has only been tested on simulated sites.

For plant, facilities and OT teams: a nine-step walkdown to find internet-exposed controllers and contractor routers without probing live equipment.

Controls engineers can turn plain-English specs into compiled, input-verified IEC 61131-3 PLC code with Midea's open-source SemaPLC IDE (110 stars).

SemaPLC is an MIT-licensed localhost web IDE and 16-tool MCP server from Midea AI that turns plain-language control specs into IEC 61131-3 Structured Text, compiles and runs it on OpenPLC Runtime v4 in Docker, forces inputs and traces variables to verify behavior, and renders a live ladder and process simulation. Everything runs locally apart from the model API you configure. Because it targets OpenPLC rather than proprietary vendor runtimes out of the box, treat it as a verification and prototyping harness before porting logic to plant hardware.

For controls engineers and OT teams: generating and behavior-testing IEC 61131-3 Structured Text against a local OpenPLC runtime before touching hardware.

Automation engineers can let AI agents build blocks, edit tags, and compile Siemens TIA Portal projects via @chewcw's Openness MCP server (41 stars).

Built in C# on .NET Framework 4.8 with a companion CLI, this open-source MCP server wraps Siemens TIA Portal Openness over stdio so an AI agent can open projects, manage hardware catalogs, blocks, UDTs, ProDiag and tag tables, import CSV or Excel lists, validate HMI targets, and compile software. It requires a Windows machine with a licensed Siemens TIA Portal V20 install and Openness user permissions, and the repo carries no open-source license file yet. Check licensing and run against offline project copies before letting an agent edit live station files.

For Siemens automation engineers: letting an MCP-capable coding agent inspect blocks, manage tag tables and run compiles in TIA Portal V20.

Wiring existing air-defense radar to Origin Robotics' autonomous BLAZE drone interceptor took under four days in Latvia with Anduril's Lattice software.

Atoms Not Bits reports that Anduril integrated its Lattice command software with existing air-defense radar and Origin Robotics' autonomous BLAZE interceptor in Latvia in less than four days to counter hostile drones and loitering munitions on NATO's eastern flank. The post shares no live intercept test metrics or contract value. For critical-infrastructure security teams, the notable detail is connecting legacy sensors to third-party autonomous interceptors in days rather than a multi-year integration program.

Liquid Energy's unfolding solar-and-battery NanoDC containers pitch four-week AI inference deployments with no grid interconnect or water line.

YC startup Liquid Energy says its factory-built NanoDC container unfolds solar panels, batteries, air cooling and Starlink on site so AI inference capacity can deploy in four weeks and turn on in 30 minutes without construction, water or a utility interconnect. The company plans its first live units this month and thousands starting in 2027, though per-box power output and unit costs are not disclosed. Even as an unaudited launch, off-grid modular compute shows how far buyers are looking to bypass multi-year transformer and interconnect queues.

Data centers hiring utility and oilfield technicians lack the written site-specific task qualifications that pipelines and nuclear plants require.

Nick Lynch compares DCD Intelligence and Uptime Institute staffing and outage surveys, where 59% of surveyed operators with human-error outages cited failure to follow procedures, against mandatory task-qualification rules in gas pipelines, nuclear plants, airlines and the Navy. While utilities and oil and gas operators sign technicians off task by task on a specific facility, data centers hire crossover trades fast without a site-specific qualification card. He outlines how a per-site task list and supervised sign-off could pair with the new $34M Jobs for the Future apprenticeship incentive fund.

Gridlock in Washington keeps 100% first-year GPU tax write-offs intact while pushing data-center power and permit fights to state regulators.

Stanley Lee argues that divided Washington keeps 100% bonus depreciation intact for GPU sale-leasebacks, while state post-election pauses, tariffs and curtailment rules stretch interconnection timelines and raise ready-for-service risk. Slowing new megawatts lifts residual values on clusters already built and powered, even as tighter credit strands unfinanced developers between equipment deposits and delivery. For infrastructure builders and buyers, power contracts and firm energization remedies now drive financing as much as the tenant's credit.

Virginia's hearings on the $66.8B NextEra-Dominion merger test whether legacy two-year rate reviews leave everyday customers paying for AI grid load.

As Virginia State Corporation Commission hearings opened Thursday on the proposed $66.8B NextEra-Dominion merger, the utilities accepted 101 of 117 staff and consumer-counsel conditions and added a five-year, up to $5B Virginia Supplier Program, while rejecting six-year and three-year rate freezes. T&D World pairs Virginia's biennial rate-review fight with Pennsylvania's consumer-advocate challenge against PPL over data-center cost shifts. With closing targeted for the second half of 2027, large industrial and data-center loads are pushing state commissions to rewrite how grid upgrades get billed.

NVIDIA Auto Ontology (6,653 stars) puts a certified business dictionary in front of data agents.

Auto Ontology is an Apache-2.0 framework that drafts an ontology from database metadata, grounds agent SQL in certified terms, and exposes read-only MCP tools for Databricks, Postgres, Snowflake and DuckDB. NVIDIA's speed claims are its own and no accuracy scores are published, and the README notes passwords can sit unencrypted without Vault.
